Tuesday Treats (Fall Favorites): Candy Autumn Apple POPS
In anticipation of Halloween, NewCanaanMoms.com asked me to whip up a yummy and festive treat (which was featured on their site a few days ago.) And, while, most of us are still nursing our candy hangovers this morning, I wanted to share this fun, simple and kid-friendly food project today because, honestly, these babies make for the perfect treat all season long!
Starting In early September, when we go to the church fair, my kids beg for a candy apple. Always, I wince because the apples are big, really difficult to eat and prove to be a sticky mess! However, though it’s laden with candy, I do like the idea of a crisp organic apple at the center of this treat and I figured if I could make it easier to eat, it might be fun to make at home.
The solution? Apple POPS, of course!
Anna's Candy Autumn Apple POPS
Makes
Serves
Prep time: Total time:
Apples, sliced 1 ½ inch thick
wooden popsicle sticks
2 cups chocolate, melted
Sprinkles (optional)
Chopped nuts (optional)
Mini marshmallows (optional)
Crushed pretzels (optional)
Crushed Oreos (optional)
- Instead of a full apple, begin by cutting apples into thick, 1 ½ inch slices.
- Then, after making a small slit in the bottom, add the wooden stick handle.
- Melt a few different chocolates like milk and white or candy melts like orange and green for Halloween. You can use any kind of chocolate you like. My personal favorite is dark chocolate.
- Since my children are still small, I take care of the chocolate dipping but older kids could handle this task.
- Place the, still warm, chocolate apples on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
- Then, lay out a bunch of fun toppings like jimmies, nuts, pretzels and even crushed up Oreos. You can even drizzle a few different chocolates on top. The kids will have a blast customizing each apple and no combination is wrong; they all end up tasting fantastic.
- Finally, I let them harden up in the fridge for 20 minutes just to make sure all the toppings stick and the chocolate will not drip.
- Let the apple pop eating begin!
